hi, i'm new here but this is what have got to say

to get people to sign up you should offer weekly/monthly newsletters,
in the forum have a section for just any general chit-chat, section for any other mmo games

also would it be possible to have a games arcade to play games in, i know that on foums there are games which have highscores linked to the forum, which enable the forum to have little competions.

i've got other bits and bobs but i need to think them through

I can go with the Newsletters, thats a good idea! Once I get the site put together completely we'll incorporate that. As for the forum sections, I think the general chit-chat would be your "Open Discussion" forum. As far as the "Any other MMO'S", I'm at a stand-still. At the same time I want to keep this site focused on MMOFPS games (that's what brings people here) but at the same time offer enough forum versatility to the community so that they will stay here.

I think in the future I will be able to incorporate an arcade type thing, but linking them to the forum would take some work, I'll look into though.

i understand that you want to kepp the site to mainly FPS, but if there was a small section for other mmo's it would mean that the people on the forum will use it more to talk about the other games they play. it could lead to them advertising the site because it is a dedicated MMOFPS site with freedom to do stuff. i think it would help people to join as it means they have all they need on one forum rather than having to check 3 or 4 forums for the latest news.

One of the big things you want to avoid is trying to offer too much. Running this board (just checking the forums/Mail/Ect) takes time. If you add too much it will become too much of a burden and will force you to either drop content (pi$$ing off your subscribers) or drop the board (pi$$ing off you)

Sort of like mcdonalds trying to serve pizza. Just because it is good doesnt mean it needs to be on the menu.

Yeah. I had the arcade up here for awhile but it was slowing down the site quite a bit so i dropped it. Plus it gave the site a chance to be blocked by nanny filters.

Truth. I believe that this site is awesome because of its very specific aim: MMOFPS. Don't string yourself out. It's specifically aimed at one genre, and that's a good thing. And in my opinion, people don't need to be making these forums into their "one stop shop" for all their gaming interests for convenience's sake or anything.
