Latest News - April 4th
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wish I had some decent news, but I don't. I am trying to get a specific "date" on when we are resuming beta tests. As of right now, it doesn't appear as if the game will officially launch anytime soon, that is to say, this Spring 2008. I don't have any confirmation as of yet for Summer or Holidays.
The team is going through a lot at this time, mostly with the PC version of the game. The Xbox 360 status is decent and our console developers are already looking into the PS3 for further console expansions. However, the Xbox 360 isn't going to do us any good for PC-Xbox 360 interactions if Microsoft doesn't fix Windows Vista.
Our other option is OpenGL, but as I stated in another posting, we have to wait to see what Carmack and friends are up to, or what company they have hired to come out with the new version. We are just skeptical the moment about the whole OpenGL thing.
We don't want to launch this game unless it's great, and we don't want to launch something that's graphically similar to Planetside, or resembles any other game.
When I hear something, I'll let you know. At this time, we are just busy with development, still, and eager to get this game launched, when it's ready.
Further down.
Yes, it's grim if you look at the length of time to wait for a release. You mentioned something about Windows 7, we are hoping that will go smooth. We've been through a lot of hell with this VISTA BS with Microsoft.
OpenGL has many possibilities. We are skeptical because Carmack has been talking about an OpenGL upgrade for years. The technology today, although older than 10 years, is still quite good and nearly matches DirectX 9.
We have hit crossroads. If we want Xbox 360 collaborations with PCs, we need Vista to work with DirectX 10. Vista is broken at this point and the fixes Microsoft say they will fix, never get fixed. It's like; they're spending all their time on that stupid OOXML (Open Office XML) project (which we are personally against using as an International Standard when there's ODF), and so on.
It's just a complete mess, depending on one large company that has sucked up nearly 90% of PC desktops (could be less now that people are beginning to buy more Macs) and having to rely on them, at their "mercy" to launch your own product.
Windows XP is fading out as of July 1st, so we can't go back to that. Which is a damn shame because that would be our option with DirectX 9 .
OpenGL will run on ALL platforms, but we still won't be able to mix Xbox 360 and PC users without DirectX 10.
I know I am sorta venting here, but this vent is only one breath of millions of other people, and companies, going through similar crises with Microsoft.
Speaking of OOXML (Open Office XML), what's going to happen when that breaks? Does that mean everyone that's "Open" will still have to rely on a corporate entity to fix it? That's not open.
Frustrated... but there's hope... and eventually a light at the end of the tunnel. We got into this industry because of "challenges", and this is one we have to face and correct.

Yes, several times. However, that will probably piss off the majority of our users. There are things we want to do, campaign wise, for PC and consoles that's never been done before. That's another reason why we need the PC and console versions done (just the Xbox 360 consoles, PS3 will be out afterwards).

So lets see, you have a company that puts everything thats been in production on hold "becuase of DX10", Still a complete and total lack of screenshots, and some forthcoming (Keep in mind its been well over a year and some change now since the original Launch where they were ready) Then they are talking about launching for XBox and PS3, they cant even produce a simple deadline to meet. Becuase all the comments they have produced and put out seems to point to one large fact. They havent even started producing anything in terms of a functional game, much less worthy of attention by massiveFPS. As it is, Andy Hodges, or SOS as he is known here, has logged in to his account for the first time in march in over a year over at GG, with the announcement of the new TGEa 1.7, a complete remake of the engine the LC was currently using. Watch for them to suddenly come to live with new reports of updates and code and"wowness" But im not holding my breath. (as a small plug, go check it out for yourself,
www.garagegames.com, check out the 1.7 demo videos) LC has never been truthful to thier fan base, intentional or otherwise, they have refused on a number of places to even comment on items that are clearly misinformed. Ok Tiako, if you want the original HTML of the above quotes i can get them to you as well as entire series of screenshots of now now existant blogs that SOS/Andy thinks are gone from the public eye. This game needs to be taken and shaken as a example for the garbage it is. The excuses have been half throught out. I mean who plans a game around a future technology a year out. If you read the announement, they were waiting for DX10, BS. When they were talking about announcements and launches all last year. They even have cut off preorders, i suspect becuase of some folks really starting to dig into what is going on with Mr Andy Hodges and his pet project. Unless someone can prove me wrong. Lets see this game and forum option removed permanently from this listing. This isnt a game even close to the games that are listed next to it. Its not even off the ground.
