Starcraft III MMOFPS? 1 Year, 1 Month ago

Heard a rumor floating around that Blizzard would think about generating a FPS game based in the Starcraft Universe. It really depends on how well Starcraft IIIdoes on release...hopefully it is better than C&C 3.
Of course the "Starcraft Ghost" didn't really take off..but I think that was more a fault of the game not living up to the series than a problem with the concept.
I took the liberty of Emailing Blizzard the MMOFPS board banner, and giving them an email on what a great idea a MMOFPS based off of Starcraft would be...
Of course I am just one guy with an opinion
I will let you know if anyone at Blizzard emails me back anything relevant.

According to our poll here most players prefer Halo over other popular FPS series like Battlefeild and Counterstrike. I never thought of throwing Starcraft in there. If anyone were to break the genre it would be blizzard. They've created the most successfull MMORPG, it would only make sense to pursue MMOFPS's.

I think the biggest pull of halo is that it is a multi-layer FPS with alot of options and a fantastic storyline.
Blizzard made RTS a major player with the Starcraft franchise, but the only "classic" FPS besides Halo is Half Life...again many layers of tech and lots of available options, and a great storyline.
But how many people sit down and play Halo every day, when it first came out everybody sat in groups of 16 with 4 tv's and had it out...but when you have "captured the flag" for the 50,000 time your not going to keep in on it.
A good MMOFPS for the Starcraft would have to offer all the Role-Playing elements of WOW to compliment the storyline of Starcraft, along with the "Twitch" of a FPS, to entice a large enough crowd for Blizzard to take the risk.

A good FPS os once again like Half-life because Half-Life uses key elements of many gaming genres and used it to advance FPS.
It appears that the Half-Life team have really worked with the buyers and investors to create a product that people will get hooked on(without using subliminal messages "WoW" im looking at you).
If a game such as Half-Life or Halo were to come out as a sony product it would be a real step up in the industry as at the moment only 2 companies are producing "big name" games. The same goes for Nintendo

If you're looking for seomthing along the lines of half-life for an MMOFPS you might want to check into Twilight War. They use Source, the same engine used for Counter Strike/Half Life.
To get back on topic though, what engine do you thing a Starcraft MMOFPS would use? I would say that Blizzard would stick to what they normally do, which is make their own.

The problem is that an FPS is a completely different set of math from your standard RTS. Blizzard does have the capability to generate thier own engine but that would be like re-making the wheel. I hate to say it but the Quake engine is still on the top of the list for the FPS
