WASD+mouse all the way, its precision in FPS is the only way to go. I even remember reading a story about a guy in a Halo 2 tournament complaning about some people having a keyboard/mouse set up. (this is Xbox Halo 2, before the computer version.)
Although, certain games NEED a joystick, otherwise they are insanely hard/unfun. And that is flight simulation. Descent FTW, had a joystick that worked 25% of the time and I still did better than with my WASD+mouse controls. Otherwise, is there any reason for a joystick?
Trackball, heh. Used one a few years ago at a friends house. Is your precise? I don't think his was all that good, but I wouldn't think to leave my WASD+mouse set up for a trackball.
