A couple years back my friend introduced me to a little thing called "Transhumanism". Out of curiosity I delved into it for quite some time. I figured I would bring it up for some intelligible debate/discussion.

Transhumanism is basically the changing (or enhancement) of the human body/race through means of technology. Common discussion usually center on becoming a cyborg, the "Singularity", and even living forever.

I’m going to digress from this threads topic for a tad to help in understanding.

The "Singularity" is a theory that states technology increases exponentially which will inevitably lead us to an uncontrollable state, subsequently leading to the (possible) demise of the human race- or at least the natural biological state that nature has intended for it.

Confused?

Take for instance the computer. Compare one of the original milestone models ran on DOS, like the Commodore 64, to the beast of a machine that you use today. Just imagine what computers will be like 10 years from now? Now think of all of the things that benefit from computer technology, like medical science. All of these things improve hand in hand, exponentially towards an unknown result.

Now back to the topic.

Living forever. Some say that our generation is destined to live forever simply because we fall into an era of advanced technological improvement. They say when medical science has found a way to extend our lifespan to say, 150 years, there will be technology that exists than that will allow us to live to be 500 years old, and than a 1000. Next thing you know, you’re practically immortal.

Ever hear of the Methuselah Prize? They have millions of dollars that will be awarded to the first person to be able to extend a mouse’s lifespan to an unprecedented length. Which would be the first milestone in ending the "disease" that we call aging.

Does anyone think this is possible, or is it just a bunch of geeky scientist talk? Even if it were possible, would you want to live forever? Or would you just die naturally and let the rest of the world live on without you?

Talking about that will always lead to the theory that says that world would be eviscerated by technology .... If we thought that the matter of living and dying is because of the cells decaying and not be able to regenerate then we're wrong cuz we can see many healthy people die everyday so , as for the technology , yes it can expand our life's rate but no more ! actually I believe that the matter of living and dying is in god's hands .

I see someone has already looked into SENS research. I agree. There is just too many variables in life to narrow down our life spans to just one simple thing.

I think it's kinda funny actually. Assuming it was possible, gods will (or whatever belief you may have) would just have me ran over by a bus anyway.

The future is definitely a blank page. I'm just happy I was born during this day and age. I love the fact that my worries and concerns are mainly focused on whether my internet connection is fast or not, instead of worrying about the black plague.

That's what's the whole talking about , and since you mentioned the black plague , then we actually can know for sure that the medical research gave us some advantages over the ages but preventing death will remain a theory I think and BTW I do care about my INTERNET CONNECTION
