Ideas for a mech MMOFPS 1 Year, 6 Months ago

Here's some ideas I have for a mech MMOFPS.
For those not in the know, "mech" refers to giant pilotable robots. Stuff like Gundam, Evangelion, and Mazinger.
Anyways, the basic backstory would be thus: in the distant future, a series of meteors falls to earth. The destruction caused by the meteors throws the world into chaos. Governments crumble and smaller tribes of nomads appear, using modified versions of robots used for construction and law enforcement to battle one another. These robots are now known as AWPs: Anthropomorphic Weapons Platforms.
As if the chaos caused by the meteors and tribal warfare isn't enough, aliens soon emerge from the meteors. Now, the tribes have to fight not only each other, but these invaders.
When a player starts off, he is given one of three different mechs: Javelin (lightweight model with good agility, but little armor and weapon capacity), Sentry (balanced model), and Cerberus (slow, but heavily armored and capable of carrying power weapons). Players earn money from killing aliens and are unallowed to engage in PvP until a certain level, at which time they can choose a faction to join. After that, they can engage in PvP either amongst fellow faction members, teams, and guilds (via request) or engage in open warfare with players of opposing factions.
Weapons bought for the player's mech would follow one of four "elements": Solid (weapons that use bullets and have limited ammunition), Beam (weapons that use lasers and draw off of the mech's energy), Heat (Weapons like rockets and napalm, limited ammo), and Plasma (Powerful weapons that require lots of energy, draws of the mechs power). Armor bought for the mechs can have resistence can have resistence to these elements: magnetic resistence for solid, refractive resistence for beam, cooling resistence for heat, and EM resistence for plasma.
That's what I've thought up of thus far. What do you guys think? Because, seriously, we don't have enough mech MMOs, much less MMOFPSs.

I love the idea of a completely Mech based MMOFPS.
In Planetside the mechs (called BFR's) ruined the game, simply because balancing them out was too difficult. Infantry were extremely vulnerable and made the option to play as infantry unattractive.
If this game were to be solely based on mechs, I would say it would do good. The AWP acronym is catchy BTW.

Thanks for the kind words.
Anyways, another idea I had would be of travel from area to area, and in some area, pilots would be able to come out of their mechs to commune in bizzares, where they can buy upgrades and parts for their mechs, plus trade with other players. Kinda like the cities in Space Cowoby.

Would definitely need a large parking lot... Not sure if you ever played SWG, but when the bikes came out you would find them in every corner of the street, it would just look trashy and crowded everywhere you went.
Maybe if you had some garage type place where players would turn in their mechs.

Good point. Here's an idea: entrances into bizzares would be represented by an elevator that would take your mech underground. Once loading is complete, your pilot would appear in the bizzare, and when you're ready to return to the overworld, they take the elevator back up.
Another idea I had: small AI bots that could purchased for support, like pets. They would serve functions from repairing damage to activating barriers to operating like an orbital turret (if you've played Armored Core and saw Exceed Orbits in action, you'll know what I mean).

Here's a breakdown of what I was thinking for the mech models:
Javelin
Lightweight model with light armor plating and reverse-jointed legs for high jumping and speed. Two weapon hardpoints on each arm. Uncapable of equiping heavy weapons. Special ability: overdrive, temporary increase in speed and agility.
Sentry
Middleweight humanoid model with a good balance of speed and armor. Three weapon hardpoints on each arm. Can equip some heavy weapons, but those weapons will take up all of the hardpoints on an arm. Special ability: vector field, invincible to all attack for a few seconds.
Cerberus
Heavyweight model with tank treads. Can equip heavy weapons, but cannot equip melee weapons. Cannot jump, requires thrusters for verticle acent. Special ability: berzerker, temporary increase in firepower.
