I think we should code a page specifically for the rules. Just a simple little HTML page. If we really want to get fancy, we could have the rules outlined in XML and run it through either a parser or an XSL file.

Remember, you want to keep the rules simple. Users are not going to take the time to read through even 1 paragraph. They also will not take the time to read through a different thread on each board. You're much better off having common rules on a central page--not a post. Keep the number of rules to a minimum, too. Try to stick with around 10. No proxies, no account scamming, no real world item trading, etc. Simple, broad, effective.

If you want me to draw up a page, I'd be more than happy to.

How do you like this set of rules?

Offensive Language
- Please keep it appropriate. There is really no need for abusive swearing, flaming, or spam (with the only exception for the latter being the spam thread). Offensive language neither enhances your post nor raises your reputation, so please refrain from using it.

Ban Evasion/Proxies
- Ban evasion is strictly prohibited. All that evading a ban will do is get you banned for even longer. Repeated violations of this rule could result in a phone call to your ISP. Please also refrain from using proxies. Although you might have legit reasons for using one, rest assured your IP is safe with us. If you use a proxy, you will look like a ban evader, and we will be likely to ban you permanently.

Scamming
- Scamming a user in any way is never okay, even in the form of revenge. If a user scams you, please do not scam others to gain what you lost back. Simply inform a staff member of the scam and we will take care of it. Your position is to report people; you need not take action.

Real World Item Trading
- Real world item trading has become an increasingly large problem on many online games. Although this is more of a problem in MMORPG games than MMOFPS games, there is still the possibility that a user will find some way to involve the real world with a game. The real world and games are separate, and it should stay that way.

Account Sharing/Trading
- This is not a place to trade, share, sell, or otherwise transfer gaming accounts. Doing so is a violation of the rule in most games.

Follow the Rule of the Games
- When posting about a specific game(s), you must abide by the rule of the game.

Abuse Reporting/Customer Support Abuse
- You may not abuse customer support under any circumstance. We are here to help you. If you find another user breaking a rule, please do us the favor of reporting them. The security of this site relies on you, the user. We only act upon your reports. It's your job to find the rule breakers.

Impersonation
- Under no circumstances is impersonation warranted. We will not accept "but it was just a joke" as a valid excuse.

Protection of your Account
- It is your job to protect your own account. You may never share your MasiveFPS account password with anybody besides a parent/guardian. They may not post for you, although they may moderate what you post/read.

I was thinking of something a bit more simple for the global forum rules than its own HTML page.

I like both of your rules and it would be good if you guys could both find a way to combine them. After the rules are set, what I was thinking is that we pin the rules under the general discussion area. You'll notice that under each section where you have posted guidelines I have changed the ending to say "Standard board rules apply". This saying should link to the general board rules.

Let me know what you guys think.

Also, supertech, about the setup you were talking about. This site runs on the CMS Joomla. You don't have to worry about HTML and parsing with XML/XSL. If a new page needs to be made that can be updated by ourselves we simply log into the backend of this site and change it. The CMS does the rest.

There's alot of pros/cons about using this particular CMS, a big con being that limiting ourselves to the CMS limits the dynamics of the site, a big pro being that it is EXTERMELY organized and manageable.

Well, it must be a great setup, because everything looks awesome so far! I'm glad you like the rules. I'll talk to deathreape to combine them, then you can edit them however you want.
