Volunteer Guidelines

Thank you for showing interest in volunteering for MassiveFPS.com. We are currently the #1 search result when it comes to MMOFPS searches in over 20 countries and out of 2.2 million sites related to the term. If you're looking at finding a good place to learn about the gaming industry than you've found it! When this genre undoubtedly peaks, we will have already had the sustained platform to dominate it- and your exposure will be right there when we do.

Writers

We’ve really wore down the chisel with how writing for the site should be handled.

After being accepted to write for the site you will be provided more instructions on how to get articles published and where to publish them. After that, you may write whatever you please- so long as you and I (Bryan) believe the article is healthy for the site (which doesn’t restrict much). As a writer you may contact community managers for whichever game you have interest in and represent MassiveFPS.com.

Exclusive interviews, Q&A sit-downs, previews, reviews, there’s really nothing you shouldn’t be able to write about so long as the game you are writing on has guns in it. If you don’t have the courage to set up exclusive interviews with certain games just let me know and I will help you out.

When applying it will be helpful if you supplied an example piece of your work. Also, I understand some writers put on a different hat when writing- but please wear that same hat when applying for a writing position. Bottom line: grammatical errors in an application will result in that application being ignored!

Site Administration/ Graphics

If you are familiar with HTML, PHP, CSS, knowledgeable with CMS’s and handy with design software like Photoshop/Fireworks/Flash. We could definitely use the help in expanding the site in any positive way you can think of.

Forum Moderation / Community Management

There are many variables to look at when fostering a community.

You have to weigh between making a comfortable environment and keeping order to the boards. The mission statement for a moderator is this simple: If it makes the community grow, it's favored.

This is a gaming portal website so it will be expected to have opinionated members; sometime members that are more vocal than others express themselves in a way not shared by most level-headed people . What I ask when you meet these people is that you engage them maturely and neutrally, while unilaterally accomplishing your moderation and/or management responsibilities. Patience truly is a virtue, and it should be exercised by our team.

As part of the team, anything you say will be viewed by members as a representation of the site itself. With that being said, I ask that we appear neutral when engaging in highly controversial topics.

Punctuation, good grammar, and good articulation are a plus.

Our entire site will be molded from the community. If there are a number of people pushing for something that is not in the general direction of the site, we should evaluate ourselves to see if the community needs are being met.

You may apply on different types of moderation. You can be a global mod (control over every section) or a junior mod (control over a specific section). It's your choice really, as long as the position isn’t already taken.

If you are interested in game journalism and are looking for a place to build your portfolio, our site is a great place to begin in understanding how much of the process works out. I've prepared an introductory article explaining more in the following link:
