Take a look at your standard RTS game like Command and Conquer, or Star Craft. Remembering the first time playing Planetside can best be described as an incomparable gaming experience. Planetside compiles this same emphasis on strategy, but provides the first person perspective, and even goes one step further by allowing an endless amount of targets available at your whim… each of which are controlled by players like yourself.
Planetside has been around for years. Through the thick and thin, from weapon balancing to game expansion packs, it has stuck its chest out and even still remains a contender in today’s gaming world. The reason for this can be summed up into one sentence: In Planetside you can battle alongside hundreds (potentially thousands) of gamers in an ongoing massive battle of a scale that you cannot experience in any other game.

This game is for older enthusiasts, down to younger bouncebunnies. It's for everyone. Since you're coming with your own clan, there is no point in detailing the differences in "Outfits" (guilds, clan, outfits is what PS uses), but hopefully you will see what other Outfits play like yourselves, and form a partnership. Once you meet the great people in Planetside, you'll understand why people have stayed in the game so long.
Planetside is a great blend of strategy, unit tactics and personal tactics. Strategy comes in the form of which linked base or planet will give your empire the most bang for the buck. This even gets better with the ability to deny the enemy's usage of their own base or tower. When players gather together and work as a team the results are awesome. As an example there was one particular "Outfit" that would mass a large number of bombers. This group would then carpet bomb a base until the ground forces could take control of the outside areas. There are large numbers of weapon and non weapon choices to be picked from. Personal FPS tactics come into play such as deciding to throw a grenade around a corner before charging forth with a mini-chain gun. My descriptions only scratches the surface, it truly needs to be experienced.

seriously, its amazing. i've been playing for years and its like nothing i've ever seen anywhere else.
a Battle Rank 1 (level 1) soldier has the ability to kill a Battle Rank 25. there's none of this "higher level = better" bull.
granted, a Battle Rank 25 will probably win through experience and a greater variety of weapons to choose from...but its not like WoW and its level 80 pwns all nonsense.
also, there's no economy, no currency. so you dont have to grind all day or gold farm.
finally, if you've ever played BF2142, you know about Unlocks. Planetside has those, except they arent permanent: you can swap them out.

Yeah Planet is the BEST game I have ever played. And ive played a shit load of games The idea for no economy and no currency is brilliant for a war game(very realistic).Like in Korean FPS games you have to buy ure own weapons... in an army they supply weapons... and obviously i havent seen such a gigantic FPS game with 100% player controlled enemies
Planetside Works 100% in Windows Vista, just a few tweaks are required.
(Do this for the launcher shortcut and planetside.exe in the planetside directory)
1. Right click the file, choose properties
2. Goto the "Compatibility" Tab
3. Select "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and Choose "Windows 95"
4. Check the "Disable Desktop Composition" box
5. Check the "Disable display scailong on high DPI settings" box
6. Check the "Run this program as an administrator" box.
Run the launcher, and all works!
When using ventrilo, it's best to run that as an administrator as well. Again, rightclick the shortcut, go to properties->combatibility and choose "Run this program as an administrator".
