Typically, one word will trail the mentioning of “MMOFPS”: Planetside. Some would argue that the reason for this is that it’s the only MMOFPS game that currently exists. What some don’t know… is that there is an entire beta and alpha conglomerate of MMOFPS games in the making as you read this very sentence. Read more for a quick glimpse of these latest developments:
Choose between playing average humans, appropriately named “sapiens”- or their genetically altered race, named “alternatives”. The concept of the game much like anything else involving war, is resource control. Additionally, a few among the races thought radioactive inspired pro-creation was a good idea, subsequently resulting in blood thirsty zerg-like offspring named “hybrids”. It seems experimentation didn’t just stop in the 70’s!
The progress of this game has been closely watched by the MMOFPS community. Anyone following this game can confidently say that they have no clue when it will be released. It appears we will continue to wait for that E3 leakage to find out what the hell is going on. This is the game that most believe will be the tip of the spear into the MMOFPS genre movement.
Three galactic empires have settled a majority of the known galaxy and battle over the remaining planets. Choose between the technologically inspired, warrior inspired, or religion inspired empire and begin to battle.
Versus has just barely begun poking its alpha stage, but we have seen enough progress and follow-through to believe the game will one day sprout into a promising indie MMOFPS.
Resources have dwindled at home causing a new planet to be colonized. Uncommon goals within the colony have lead to instability and separation. Choose among 3 factions and ensure your survival through resource and territory control.
Lost Colony has an open-beta, and continues to make additions to the game. The launch is claimed to happen any day. Although the launch will be soon, plan to see many more improvements in the future. The game momentum has started, and it will be hard to stop.

Unlike the rest of the genre, Control Monger is planning to transform into an MMOFPS, rather than be built as one from the beginning. The game currently has multiplayer maps in an FPS environment. The MMOFPS community is not too hopeful for this game to join its ranks, as the promise to become an MMOFPS was made two years ago. Still, a promise is a promise… and we’re watching.
