No Release No Beta Testing

My review on the game is as follows
No Closed Beta testing has taken place March is here no open Beta testing has taken place Game ready soon ? make your own mind up My Review from the community and Red Planet Same old schlock from the dev team and the same customers being told to shut up on the closed forums for asking awkward but valid questions. Disagree too much you will get your paid for account posting privileges removed and banned from the paid forums. Red Planet does not delete accounts anymore, that would be in breach of contract, they just silence you. This is a mess and at best an ill conceived pipe dream at worst..... well that would be illegal. Anyone from Red Planet want to disagree please do so but back up your statements with some truth / evidence rather than the same old rhetoric. I can back up all the statements I have made in this review. Do yourself a favour steer clear of this game and the dishonest way it has been marketed. It?s a shame that such a good idea that used to have so much support has ended up in such a poor way. . ![]() Author: DrDysdy

Apparently this title will be released in March, but without seeing any content from the game, there might as well be no game at all
A copy of planetside

The developers are blatantly copying another game, and they aren't even doing it very well.

Can't wait for the final release. All beta releases have been excellent so far. Nice people and staff.

as i read some of the negative comments from others in this review, i find it hard to believe that they are preorder customers. preorder customers have been informed about this game on a regular basis since i first purchased it back in january 07. i'm happy with the game and like the beta tests i've seen. moreover, the original music composer from planetside left to join lost colony. also, some of the original artists and developer staff left planetside and are now helping lost colony finish their game. yes, the red planet company seems to throw many surprises and perhaps one that they are not going to share until they finally release. other game companies dont have the same quality of staff as red planet who are nice and are devoted to releasing information they can in their forums. most of their information is in the paid members forum. if you haven't bought this game (which seems to reason to call lost colony a planetside clone) then you have no right talking about it in the first place. let it come out and release. don't judge a book by its cover. just because they are delayed doesn't mean there's not a game. if you think that lost colony is the only game that has a delay, then you obviously don't know much about games. i am looking forward to playing lost colony as my outfit already left planetside to wait for a better game.
It rocks

The game during beta has been great. The game has been delayed by 1 year (so far) but they devs have released several betas to get people in the game. Gameplay is smooth, weapons look nice, environment features such as snow and rain bring things to life. Graphics are good. This game has delivered on everything promised except for the release date. That's ok, it's common, if we were to look at other games like Huxley that is taking 4 years already to release. 1 year with Lost Colony isn't going to hurt.
Vaporware? No. Playable? Hopefully

While Lost Colony gives many people hope that true indie developers can and will make the next great mmofps, the very facts are not good. The game was pushed back by one year just a few days before its intended release, and public screenshots are rare.
More Planetside!

I don't care if it's a Planetside clone.
All it need is fairly up-to-date graphics, Devs that listen and update the game, balanced gameplay and a big enough player-base. Given the success Planetside used to have, this could be huge. Looks to be a good game

BUT ... don't pre-order wait untill it comes out . I heard March 2008 is the finnal day for launch. I will wait and see. Yes it looks like a Planetside clone ... maybe it has a better engine than PS I sure hope so.

I must disagree with people saying it's a Planetside clone.
Although many external features are the same, such as the landscape - the trees, the signal beams that light up into the sky, the layout of the HUD - even up to the transparent blue/teal colours of the HUD itself, the most important and intrinsic feature that the Lost Colony seems to possess is the presence of *active* developers who are actually sensitive to their fanbase and the consequential underlying company support. From what I've seen and read, there's a lot of hype and an atmosphere of eager anticipation surrounding this game, and I only hope the developers don't fuck up - which actually shouldn't be really hard as they're appealing to a relatively niche market. I was terribly disppointed when Planetside began to die, and like many others, I'm just waiting for the next time I can re-experience and feel the incredible surge of adrenaline when I rush into the thick of battle with several hundred allied and enemy soldiers. do not preorder this game

Please what ever you do, do not preorder this game.
I am sure in time it will be something special but keep your cash in your pocket. test

A RIP

Ok - I understand people who have a heart for this game - but please - let's look at it from a PC User experience.
It's almost a complete RIP from PS, right down to the Bases/Towers design, Spawn Tubes - OS's? etc. If these are complete models of the game - they are horrific - and something my 13yr old could do in a matter of hours - LC - please dont charge people to -pre-alpha test this for you - you should be paying them. Looking good

Ive been following this game since it was announced back in November or December, and it it really starting to shape up. The screen shots on this page right now (7/23) are out of date, and the game has new shaders as well as new bases, and the more recent shots look just great, plus it takes literally no resources to run and the Framerate is constantly 70+ on even lower end computers.
The dev team is also great. They actually LISTEN to the community and make changes on the game based on their customers suggestions, likes and dislikes. The storyline updates wont be strictly "story" updates as someone previously stated in their review, but according to devs they will often include new weapons, vehicles, etc. (not every time, but often enough, unlike ps who implemented all of 6 new weapons/vehicles through their entire dev cycle excluding the expansion pack, of course). Although the idea is a bit "unoriginal" i still give this game an "A" so far because of its great devs and the progressive development that will keep the game very interesting for a long time to come. It's good

This game has a lot of unique quality to it. The fact that they are using havoc for physics and have stepped up to support DX10 and Vista 64bit tells me they are ahead of Planetside. NOT a clone. The staff is friendly and they communicate which is unlike most companies today.
about that

I will admit 100% that I floated with the waves of accusation when this game was being called a scam for the same reasons the person below me stated. The game has high potential and has picked up some strong team members recently and now I beleive the game has some muscle behind it. As for it's EXTREMELY shakey start and false announcements it's hard for naysayers to trust official release statements or other announcements.
I give it a B for a couple reasons. "A" because it's a continuation of a genre that is too dry for the amount of hype it receives. "A"- Like Planetside, this will be a RAW MMOFPS, which in my terms means that all players are controlled by RL players and the game is also designed for large realtime battles. "C" for its lack of originality. Wait and see

All in all it seems like a PlanetSide clone. This time, hopefully, with a more active and courteous developer team. There is a large contigent of former PS players not-so-quietly awaiting the realease. It is in a closed beta as of today, July 12th, but the devs say they will release a public beta next month. I give it a C because the game has great potential, and already has the contingent of PSers, but part of me can't shake the feeling like this is a scam. Something just doesn't feel right about the website, maybe it's Vaporware or something. The company just seems unprofessional. I did give my $19.95, so we will see. There email system and their payments system is horrible too. It takes over 24 hours to put a payment through.
Looks Familiar

So the game has stories that are updated weekly, what does that mean? The story changes, the gameplay stays the same.
This game, in my opinion is good for planetside vets that loved the game, but are just getting tired of a game with no promise or plans for change or updates anymore. It's a clone of planetside gameplay with an updated storyline. |
