Little is known about Huxley's gameplay at the moment. Action is directed to be fast-paced, on par with games such as Unreal Tournament 2004,[citation needed] applied to a Massively Multiplayer Online Game setting. This style is in contrast to another MMOFPS, PlanetSide by Sony Online Entertainment, which follows a more tactical and thought out route of action. In a recent interview, Huxley's main producer Kijong Kang said that the cities in Huxley will be able to accommodate up to 5000 (according to recent publications that number was increased to 10000 since summer 2006) people, and the individual battles will support over a hundred players. The battles can be as small as 1 VS 1 or as big as 60 VS 60 players (120), which is a modest improvement over the 150 player maximum of Novalogic's Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. Player vs. AI will allow up to 64 players of a given faction to play together.
Player vs. player battles will be available, as will be player vs. AI quests that the player can choose to take on. The 360 version of Huxley is said to include a single player campaign.

Although Webzen has not been specific, it can be derived from the released information that Huxley’s advancement system is actually separated into two. In the early part of the character advancement player system, players can shape their character in the style they like best. After that, players can then add depth to their characters. ‘Experiences’ and ‘Battle points’ are two elements of character advancement. ‘Experiences’ will affect the earlier part of character development and ‘Battle Points’ will affect the later part of a character’s development in a big way.

In the earlier part, by acquiring licenses, characters can have opportunities to use upgraded weapons and armor. In the later part of the game, players will concentrate on developing their characters to be more effective under any circumstance. One developer has stated, "We are planning to make the earlier part of character development relatively fast and the later part of development a bit slower but more abundant. This is because we decided that too much difference between characters abilities that affect combat result is not good for an FPS game."

Been There, Done That

I see a lot of ratings posted by people who haven't layed hands on the game as of yet. Why? You know nothing other than what you've been told, and you've thus far been told nothing. What are you basing your rating on? Hype? Stop it. It's stupid.

I partook in the Closed Beta and I can tell you what I experienced there; it was a mess. Okay, betas are messy things and don't reflect the full product, I know, but hear me out.

Huxley has boiled down to being just another free-2-play "MMO"FPS (honestly, it isn't an MMO), that is to say that it uses a very unreliable way of hosting servers and connecting one player to another. This has proven to be an absolutely bad idea time and again, yet Webzen insists upon it. The problem doesn't stop there... Combat is much like Quake Arena or Unreal Tournament; it's fast, twitch-based, and completely lacks any deep tactical play or team play. The only difference is that this game features some character progression, but that won't stop you from looking and feeling just like any other player around you.

On the upside, it does have some single-player/co-operative missions. These are more akin to something you'd see or do in Phantasy Star Online, considering that each map is confined to tight corridors even when you're outside. The difference here is that the situations don't feel nearly as involved or epic. You find monsters--which you'd be hard-pressed to miss--you shoot monsters, you hope you don't die and have to respawn, you gain experience and loot, and then you move on to the next. Think of it as PVE in an MMORPG, without the RPG, the MMO, and the waiting for repop or waiting lines.

What it boils down to is this; Huxley is a generic free-2-play "MMO"FPS the likes of which you've seen several times before, only this time it's paced faster, has less depth, more variety, and is less massive. Top it off with the same antiquated "peer-2-peer" networking that makes for horrible experiences in fast-paced games and you've got this nigh-realized failure of an attempt to move the genre forward.

You want a better experience? Buy yourself a Playstation 3 and get MAG. It isn't an MMO, but you'll play with a LOT more players than you'll ever play with in Huxley.

am in college learning how to develop games all of the current gen mmofps games are nowhere near what they can or should be and considering the fact that its its mmo the battles in huxley shouldnt be capped 2 100 a side i know the lack of technology is against it but trust me i have had an idea for an mmofps for at least 5 years and so much more can be done will say visuals look very good in huxley though just hope that if its good a whole pile of copycat games likje it are released

Hype train

After speaking with people in the closed beta I can only be excited about the idea of skill based combat being introduced in the RPG flooded MMO market. Anyone who thinks they've got what it takes to prove themselves a great twitch player, get ready for the open beta, its going to be a brawl.

Huxley is not Dead!
by Jordan

This game is yet to be vaporware, it has just moved into beta testing, meaning that the release is within a year, unless severe bugs appear.

Go to huxleygame.com and visit the beta section.

This is the beta page for huxley, it states here that Huxley will be moving into Closed Beta and then several months afterwards it will be going Open Beta. A very important announcement for me, as it brings the release date closer.

The problem i see with this game is the fact that it is instanced, and the fact that it has a 100 player cap. Those 2 combinations made huxley a lot worse than what i was expecting, and i was expecting a replacement to planetside. The other problem is the fact its waaay too late. I think blizzard should make an MMORPGFPS from starcraft.

Hmmm

Well I for one miss the Planetside days... I loved the Huge battles and the "war" feeling it gave me.

This game seem to not offer that, but never the less it should be fun

Huxley's bubble bursted

Huxley has been nothing but vaporware sliding into 2 years of delays. They are using the Unreal Engine, can't really fit that many people in teh game. The latest video showing their graphics are horrible.

Amazing.

This game will be amazing. Yes, it will appeal to the younger gamers as the anonymous user said. But, it will bring the MMOFPS community into the light. Imagine this as...Guild Wars. But PVP based, and with guns.

Oh really.

Huxley is the most popular of all the MMOFPS's in development right now. It has the largest community in waiting. I think Huxley will be the "World of Warcraft" of the MMOFPS world. It will most likely become the most popular of the current Wave of MMOFPS's, but will also be watered down a bit as to appeal to the 12 year old WoW kids.

Release Damnit!
by bryan
on June 21, 2007
I'm still waiting for this one to release. I was under mistaken impressions when it was first announced, thinking battles would be on a tremendous scale similar to planetside... than I found out it would be instanced. Still, it's only 2007. Need a little more time for technology to allow (or a rich company) to create an instanceless MMOFPS. This game offers battles for up to 200 people, I'll wait to see the lag. I still believe this is the game that will lead the MMOFPS genre into the light.
