Gunz is an international anime-style game where players can perform exaggerated, gravity-defying action moves, including wall running, flipping, tumbling, and blocking bullets with swords. Gameplay "styles" in Gunz has evovled and been broken down into several categories:

In GunZ, "Korean-Style" (also commonly known as K-Style) is a style of play based on several glitches within GunZ, and is a form of emergent gameplay. Like in several fighting games such as Street Fighter, this allows a player to cancel certain character animations, thus creating complex combo moves. Because it's based on several programming oversights, people using Korean-Style were often considered to be cheating, but now the style is generally accepted, as the GunZ 2005 trailer features Korean players actively using K-Style. The name "Korean-Style" was named after the player "Korean". "K-Stylers" must use swords or kodachis, because although any other melee weapon can also cancel certain character animations, these weapons can cancel a slash animation by beginning the animation to switch their weapon, which is the basis of many glitch techniques.

Players playing without using Korean-Style are said to be using "European-Style" (E-Style), which is a style in which the player does not use canceling and only uses the core techniques for movement, and plays similarly to a normal first-person shooter game. A player who uses cancelling but does not use a sword is said to be using "Dagger-Style" (D-Style). Korean-Style, however, is the most popular fighting style in GunZ, either in full or in the use of certain moves because it creates a quicker pace for the game.

Although a highly experienced European-Styler can compete with a Korean-Styler, they may be called a "sprayer" derogatively, since many European-Stylers use automatic weapons, most of which are inaccurate due to their large spread (although several automatic weapons are some of the most accurate weapons in the game). Daggers are lightweight in comparison to swords and allow a player to dash often with more ease. However, the dagger cannot be used to block, and cannot cancel a stab animation by switching to another weapon, limiting its usefulness in comparison to using a sword.

hmm....no.

This game is fantastic if you have been playing it for ages. The main system used in game is a series of key combo's that send your character going all over the place. K-style is very hard to master, and you WILL need to play it for a long time. If you're looking for a game that you don't want to get destroyed at at first, don't choose this.

Gunz Is Great for ppl that wanna learn

The upside that if you get K-style, and M-style (Monk Style) right then you will have for sure fun. Of course no one has fun when they are a noob. There maybe some hackers on the server, but its not a problem. I know a lot of people complain about either its a Third Person Shoot or Cheap Graphics. I dont care atm about it. I've been playing GUNZ since MAIET Privately owned it. And I still say WELL DONE. Anyone else who thinks this game is trash should try harder in that game. And stop whining. This game proves perseverance.

GunZ

GunZ wasn't a bad game. But it just doesn't live up to the expectations that I have for FPSs. It isn't even an FPS, it's a TPS. The game is broken in that a player who repeatedly rolls back and forth without any reason beats a player who uses strategy and tactics.

this game isn't to bad at all and it is so much fun to just go in there and for barely playing the game just rape it up with some fps skills, but if this game was a mmo than this game would most defiantly be a most played game.

In my opinion, the game is just... plainly matrix-like online game when you just kill people and things just for some action. It gets bored easily and there needs more varieties of things.

Good for a day'
by FrosteByte
on December 9, 2007
When you start playing at first it's fun and enjoyable, mainly because it has a real smooth learning curve, most of the attack combos are easy to learn. but after awhile leveling gets very repetitive, almost everybody uses the same method of attack (Styles), and hacks are common, all high level items are premium (cash shop) items giving certain players a advantage over all others.
Over all it was fun for awhile but with the hackers, extremely repetitive leveling and all high level items premium items, it just didn't turn out a very good game.

First off, don't play this game if you dont have the will to learn , You will meet K stylers you will get your ass handed to you MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY times before you can even kill them , I myself I am level 58 K styler OoKaMi-JP if you play gunz im on quest 3 hit me up sometime for a duel , This is a wonderful game once you learn how to K style Yes this involves hitting 9-12 keys / second in order for complex techniques ... besides that if you dont have the speed to keep up don't really bother downloading it You'll only have fun untill about level 20...Thats when they start mixing everyone in the same rooms...level 20 all the way to level 70 ^^ Enjoy this game Its been great the past year i'Ve played it , it is riddled with hackers/cheaters which are a bothersome but if you know how to report then they aren't that bad , another thing is the Host Ijji tries their best to uphold the servers but recently They have been doing a really shitty job its a free game so you can't complain it's their servers lol....Just test it out play untill about level 30 and then quit...

This game is a load bull. I mean graphics are straight out of a cheap graphics program, the games shooting method is so retarded its not even funny. I mean your new Ijji host stinks. Quest system is garbage and the customization is bULLshoot. I mean I have like 700 clones of myself really, no one needs your crappy cashshop.

Hmm... Dont play this trash :)
by LKT Spartan (xbl ftw)
on November 18, 2007
Okay, if you are a fan on TPS (third person shooters) you should definitely try this game. If you like SHOOTING games, DONT try this game. Basically you play this game for a week, have some fun, and once you're lvl 20 you play with "pros". Here is the part where you quit playing this game and delete it from your computer :) You get to level 20 and see that every single person use some gay technique called "butterfly" where they use their sword/shotgun to do some really weird gay looking fling attack, and 'POOF' one-two shots and you die somehow ! What is really ironic is... the game is called GUNZ for FUCKS sake ! Not "swordz" but GUNZ !!! If you want to waste your time to learn how to press 5 different keys in a pattern in under a second to master this gay butterfly technique, go ahead. If you want a REAL shooter, get yourself a decent game, that means NOT THIS ONE

A Better Version...
by Nicholas
on November 17, 2007
There is a better version of this but people are very fast at moving... They know all of the K-style Tricks.. I have no idea what k-style stands for but i do know some of them... The BF or Butterfly which is a massive sword attack that CAN kill you almost in 2-3 strikes. The SS or Slash Shot which is where you shash your sword and switch which holding attack button and it shoots (Is a very fast attack and can put 2 hits on them if you hit them with sword and shoot them). The HS or Half step which is basicly like SS but you do a half step instead of a full one. the FS or Flash step. Very effecting while wall climbing but is not neccessary in k-styling. I bet a big question for you is... How do i learn these things... That is for you to descover. As for the M-style that WAS a long forgotten style until it was brought back in Legacy Gamers Gunz (WAY different from Maiet Gunz or IJJI Gunz..) It is currently in beta so you can get stuff for free. You also grow REALY fast unlike Maiet gunz. I realy reccommend Legacy Gamers Gunz over any other version of it. If you would like to download this game go to Legacygamers.net NOT gunzonline.com

Different, in a good way.
by Saigan
on November 16, 2007
Many people rant about this game saying 'OMG stupid noob glitchers wid no skill kill me. Dis game sux.' The thing is, that's how it is. It'd an adopted way of gameplay. Actually, the whole 'styles' thing is pretty unique, which makes this game so good. Many people that rate badly say that it sucks because they instantly get killed and it's no fun. But, if you learn styles and actually try the game out instead of judging it the first 10 minutes of gameplay, you'll come to enjoy it. Now, this isn't the best out there. You'll get bored after playing it for a while, but then you'll come back to it for a period of time and repeat...

The quest aspect is sort of fun. When you're a lower level it's just something to do to pass the time. When you get higher up and start doing bosses and etc., it becomes pretty entertaining. It takes some skill and knowledge.

Overall, a pretty good game once you give it a chance. The whole 'K-stylers are glitching noobs with on skill' is very ironic to me (Infact, almost stupid). It takes time and SKILL to learn styles. My opinion is they're too lazy to take time to learn their own. That's the gameplay of today!

Very....Well....Interesting.
by Danyael
on November 15, 2007
In my opinion the game Gunz is probably the most nerve raking game that i have ever played. With its standard "pro" fighters using automatic weapons, and shooting you from behind, and its array of infamous "K-style" users you have to constantly be on your guard. In which case the "pro" users are ok to deal with because they are what they call "E-style" users, how this applies is beyond me, but the problem that lies within the game is the "K-stylers" it is nothing more than an inventive form of hacks that some one had come up with who had to much time on his hands. The "K" styl is the MOST annoying part of the game, *poof* here *poof* there *poof* your dead.I give this game a "D" do to its hackers, aka Laggers, and its sea of "K-style" users who have no skill in the first place so they use glitches.

K-style
by Joe mama
on November 8, 2007
First off this is by no means a "FIRST" person shooter .. hell it's hardly a shooter.. but by no means is it 1st person.
Secondly it's fun for all about 5 seconds until you see some k style a.k.a glitching swords man fly around you with a sword( in a game called GUNZ go figure) killing you very quickly.
Lastly this game has the worst trash talk and the rudest players I've ever seen

A ninja game.
by DFGuy
on November 1, 2007
I played this game as an acharned during some months, and still have it installed, its sometimes claimed that its a MMOFPS, but its not MMO, its a game room type game, and its in third person.

The third person mode really don't bother and is really playable, its a locked view and there is a crosshair that is in the middle of the screen with the char slightly on the left, there are 3 weapons that we can carry at a time, one melee, and 2 ranged, personnally i use a dagger to be fast and sneaky, dual 6 shots to hit hard and a 2 handed mg that provides spraying and accuracy in bursts.

A point that i regret is that some bugs was used as exploits creating the K style, it may have been fixed long ago, but now its a part of the game, and fixing it would remove a lot of players and some char of seeing some ppl spending their time missing you and jumping everywhere frenetically.

I made myself a killer of K styler, Im often called as a noob killer because i use a dagger, and its so naughty for the poor victims.

This game is very intense and really original.

But it looks like the developpement has been stopped or something like that, the guys of Ijji only adds items that we can buy converting real money in credits as its done in many asaitic games to keep the game free, its totally viable to play without spending any real money, and the game is free if u don't choose to buy useless styley clothes or weapons in the shop that is before u lauch the game, inside the game all is free of real money spending, no worries.

Good game, innovative mechanics as wall running and slashing for example, worth the ten minutes requiered to register and dl it, only to try it, or more.

Game Play:The game itself is decently entertaining, aside from the fact that ping is P2P. When you have a higher ping to someone, you have to shoot ahead of them in order to hit, so the hit meter isn't accurate.

Community: To be honest... 90% of the GunZ community are anime loving homos. The average age of players seems to be

FUCK YOU, MAIET
by The Wonk
on October 23, 2007
Shame on you, Maiet. SHAME ON YOU.
It sounded like a pretty good game when I heard of it. It looked pretty good when I downloaded it and first opened it, with its shiny graphics and pictures. It looked pretty good when I logged in, made my awesome looking character, and joined my first game.
Then they fucked up.
It loads. I see my snazzy character in game. Two pistols? Oh, cool. I walk around. Oh hey, there's a guy with a sword! This'll be easy. I instinctively aim and fire at him. Wait, where'd he go? He's on the - what the - how'd he get over here so fast? - OH SHI - fuck, I'm dead already?
It's hard not to go on a rant here about how frustrating and inefficient this game is. If you're feeling bored, this is great for reflecting on how game developers can get it very, very wrong. Actually, ou should'nt even bother playing this. Play Pacman or Tetris instead.
You'll be bored, angry, and endlessly frustrated by the convoluted steaming pile of dogshit that is Gunz. How about renaming it to Fuckingfullofshitunz? It's like a street prostitute. It may be pretty and beautiful on the outisde, but on the inside, it's full of AIDS and STDs. Just like the sadistic people who designed Gunz.
The dodgy gameplay brought on by the half-baked mechanics, the endless bitching and trash talk, the mindless hacking, the excessive glitch exploitation - and don't give me any of that 'hurr it's part of teh gameplay lol' crap. Blocking and stabbing with a sword, two meter high leaps into the air whilst blasting away with a machine gun - simultaneously? Fuck, NO, thank you very much.
Added to the mix is the whole room-and-lobby system we see so often in Korean-developed games - it just adds to the frustration of having to find a lag-free game as well as being without hackers/exploiters AND veteran players who are there to kill you over and over again just for their entertainment. I found one once, but then realised I was playing by myself in my own private server.
Actually, why is Gunz even on this site? I can't imagine seeing old gems like Planetside even being on the same PAGE as Gunz. Now I'm going to have to close my browser and reformat my computer in order to cleanse it.
In short: Don't download this game. Don't play this game. Don't even BOTHER going to the webpage. It's a waste of time and effort. Play a REAL game.

hackers really bring this score down, i really say glicths are better then hackers, also if you meet a pro killing them is like kinda killing god it's just doesn't happen... much, so ppl really arn't really balanced at all, and im not even going to talk about "butterflying" say this is really pissing me off

its a good, fun game for it to be free, but it gets completely robbed by the very childish/ stupid players and hackers. you get constantly hounded and called a hacker for killing someone. youre also expected to use your sword at all times even though the games is called gunz. if you turn off chat its a pretty good game...until you get kicked by the 12 year old game master

Cheap Thrills
by Cory
on September 11, 2007
At first "Gunz" is very likeable - easy learning curve, fast-paced action, rpg elements - but all-in-all the game feels rather incomplete. The action is fun in an arcade-y style, but it gets old quick and the server bugs/memory leaks only compound the frustration. However, if you're looking for a quick solution to boredom that doesn't make you want to rip your eyelashes out, "Gunz" is a more-than-sufficient solution.

Good for the cost
by megabyte
on September 10, 2007
When it comes to fast-paced twitch shooters, there's some stiff competition. Gunz tries to differentiate itself by introducing dozens of new mechanics to the already well defined FPS genre, none of which seem important to game play or further the genre. All in all its great for the cost and worthy of wasting a few hours.

Different, but fun!
by Daniel
on September 7, 2007
Very fun game if you've played FPS's and are looking for something new. The sword-runners are a pain but easy to avoid if you use walls and other objects to get out of their direct path and pump them full of lead. ;P

Bit of a learning curve because of the new ideas/controls, but still a very fun game. [plus it's free]

Easy to Cheat
by ALMN
on September 3, 2007
It is extremely easy to cheat in this game. All you have to do is jump, dash with the sword, and keep doing that. Even "n00b" players can do it. It will annoy you to the point that you go looking for "hax" to finally beat these "cheaters". I recommend you do NOT get this game, seeing as how there are *WAY* better games.

Too glitchy to be played.
by TuucciZ
on August 28, 2007
Gunz: The Duel is a completely broken game which offers jumping with a sword, slashing with it, jumping again, slashing your way up a vertical hill, gliching the game into hell or optionally dieing when using a gun. I cannot recommend this to anyone. Seriosly. K-Style is like using a bicycle to win a running competition.

Ok for a free game
by Benoit Vanasse
on August 27, 2007
GunZ is an o.k. game all considering...
At first it's quite complicated as you see all those guys jumping around using their K-Style. If you got the time to invest into learning it, it's quite amusing and effective, there is alot the D-Style that is quite different. What I liked about the game is mostly the fast pace but what I dislike was that you ... well I can't really say really... it's an ok free game, wouldn't pay for it, but wasting some hours on it isn't bad. ^_^
